Testing and inspection

Component inspection and cylinder testing

Quality control includes dimensional inspection and non-destructive testing of components, including spare parts, and pressure tests on assembled cylinders. Activities are defined according to drawings, product function and supply requirements.

Dimensional inspection

We inspect individual parts intended for hydraulic cylinder assembly and components supplied to customers as spare parts. We check dimensions and geometry against drawings and technical specifications before assembly or delivery of the individual component.

Inspections and acceptance criteria are defined according to the component and supply requirements.

Non-destructive testing (NDT)

We carry out VT, MT, PT and UT non-destructive testing on parts and components, according to the inspections specified for the supply. We also carry out functional tests on cylinders.

Liquid penetrant testing (PT)

The photograph shows a component during red penetrant application, a stage of liquid penetrant testing (PT).

Pressure testing

We have four units for static and dynamic testing, with a pressure capability up to 1.500 bar. Modular test frames are configured according to the cylinder and the agreed test programme.

Test programme and documentation

We define inspections, test conditions and acceptance criteria according to the supply specifications. Results are recorded and documented with graphs and tables as required by the test programme.

FAT: customer-witnessed acceptance tests

Customers can attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Attendance arrangements, checks and documentation are agreed for each project.

Test pressure and operating pressure

Test bench pressure capability reaches up to 1.500 bar. The test pressure for each cylinder is established according to its design and is distinct from its specified operating pressure.

To define the tests, send us the available application, load, stroke, fluid, temperature and duty cycle data, together with any acceptance requirements.

Questions about testing

Which components do you inspect?+

We inspect both parts intended for cylinder assembly and components supplied separately as spare parts. Dimensional inspection and non-destructive testing are defined according to the component and supply specifications.

What is Fossa’s cylinder testing capability?+

We have four units for static and dynamic testing, with a pressure capability up to 1.500 bar. Modular test frames are configured according to the cylinder and the agreed test programme.

Can customers attend FAT?+

Customers can attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). Attendance arrangements, checks and documentation are agreed for each project.

Does a 1.500 bar test rig mean the cylinder operates at 1.500 bar?+

Test bench pressure capability reaches up to 1.500 bar. The test pressure for each cylinder is established according to its design and is distinct from its specified operating pressure.
